Diamondback Trace Dual Sport Bike (2011 Model, 700c Wheels)

The perfect bike,
This bike is exactly as described; the perfect all purpose bike. It’s fast rolling and light like a road bike, but also has what it takes to do some pretty challenging trails. I was very pleasantly surprised. The 40c tires are the perfect size. Love the front suspension. Silky smooth. The brakes are excellent. The gears are well sorted with some good low gears for the hills. I own a road bike and a 49er mountain. My road bike is great on the road and paved bike paths but wears on me on a gravel trail. My 49er is fun on the more challenging trails, but is really a slow rolling grind on the road. My Diamondback does it all. It’s a joy to ride.

|Diamondback Trace,
Diamondback Trace Dual Sport Bike (700c Wheels)
I bought the Trace Dual Sport October 2010 and for the money it is a very nice bike. It is kind of the illegitimate spawn of a 29er and a hybrid, and as such suffers a bit of an identity crisis. I own the version with the linear pull brakes, although the frame has mounts for discs even on mine, since the frame is the same as the disc model. The suspension fork on my bike is adequate for what it is, but I am tempted to change it out for a cyclocross fork – it would lighten the bike a few pounds – the Trace has a pretty light frame with a heavy front shock. It is a decent commuter and recreational bike as it is, and a good value for the money. If you get the boxed bike it would be a good idea to have a local bike shop do the final assembly or at least check it over, for safety’s sake. Also consider the Diamondback Insight. Diamondback makes bikes that are a good value for the money.
